Mark Verdery

Inez Glasgow - Administrative AssistantMark Verdery is a native of Columbia, South Carolina. He received his B.A. in English from the University of South Carolina; his Master of Divinity (with Distinction) from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia; and his Doctor of Ministry in Parish Revitalization from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. He has served as Pastor of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Anniston, Alabama; Associate Pastor for Evangelism and Congregational Care at Decatur Presbyterian Church, Decatur, Georgia; and Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Rock Hill, South Carolina. Since becoming a member of Providence Presbytery (then Bethel Presbytery) in 1985, Mark has served as moderator of the Bethelwoods Division, Administrative Council, and the Committee on Ministry, as well as moderator of Presbytery. He was a member of the Bethelwoods Capital Campaign Committee for Horton Lodge, Program Council, Saluda Center Board of Directors, Central American Task Force and Traveler, Vision and Discernment Committee, and Pastoral Care Committee. Mark’s ministry to the community has included serving on Interfaith Hospitality of York County’s Organizing Committee, Piedmont Medical Center’s Clergy Advisory Board, Rock Hill School District 3’s Health Advisory Committee, and Rock Hill’s Old Town Renaissance Roundtable. He has been a member of the Synod of South Atlantic’s Executive Leadership Team, Synod Executive Search Committee, Synod’s Council, and New Church Development / Church Transformation Committee. He was a commissioner to the 207th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Mark’s family includes his wife, Fran, their son, Sok, and daughter-in-law, Jeni, as well as a horse, a dog, and a cat.
