Presbyterian International Peacemaker visits Providence Presbytery During his visit February 7 to 16, Dr. Mazen Asaqa, a native of Mosul (Nineveh), Iraq, will speak at several locations in Providence and Charlotte Presbyteries. A lifetime member of the Mosul Presbyterian Church, he fled Iraq shortly after his father, Elder Munthir Asaqa, was assassinated by extremists early in the Iraq war. After several years as a refugee in Jordan, he, his mother and two sisters now make their home in Michigan. Mazen has nearly completed requirements to resume medical practice in the USA. Dr. Asaqa will be sharing his story about Iraqi Christians living in the midst of war and conflicts among minorities. He understands that being truly present is a powerful witness by not joining in the violence. Monday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Asaqa will speak at a “Cultural Event” on the topic "Life as a Christian in my home country – Iraq" at Barnes Recital Hall, Winthrop University. Dr. Asaqa's complete schedule is available here.
